"There are professions more harmful than industrial design, but only a few." (V. Papanek)

The quote from Victor Papanek contains a poor truth about the relationship between consumerism and the role of design in this. Nevertheless, the discussion is still vivid, even when the quote is older than 40 years now.

It is our duty to think about the effects of our products. In my work, I did and still do relate on the environmental aftermath with the need and the benefits of users. It is no simple answer given on such complex questions. The correct use and the limits of materials do play a big role, as well as the runtime of a good and the process of age.

During my Bachelors study at Bauaus-University, I deeply did research on the topic of waste and the impacts we have to our environment. Designing products that do not end in any waste is difficult, but doable, what I did show in my final project.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle was my motivation to start my first bag-production labelled MAGAZIJN, made from seatbelts, leather furniture and awning-fabrics. Developing bags in a bigger scale during employment did show me the necessity to touch the toppic on industrial level. During my Masters at HAWK, I later took the chance in a group-program with chinese global enterprise MIDEA to suggest the use of exisitng technological solutions, like robotic fabrication, not only for production, but for disassembly in the very same way – to fulfill the necessity for reusing materials in a circular manner. Design is the key, to create and achieve such ideas and to realize it within devlopment and production.
Slow moving consumer goods, items you own for a decent period of time, that transport a story, are valued or even admired, these are a strong part of my commission work.

I'd be happy to discuss the transformation process of fast moving consumer goods in a vision for future products. So, feel free to contact me for inquiries and let's see if we can do some change together for less impact on our planet.
